Q: What do we learn from this conversation?
18.W:I’m really angry at John. He never listens to me.
M:Take it easy, Alen. Things will work out.
Q:What does the man advise Alen to do?
Now you’ll hear two long conversations.
Conversation One
W:It’s important that you all understand that quartz heaters operate on a totally different principle than common convection heaters, yes?
M:Could you give us an example of a convection heater?
W:Okay, but first you tell me what convection means.
M:Hmm, well, you said in the last class, I think, that convection is the transferring of heat by a liquid or a gas.
W:Right. A heater is using convection when it warms the air in the room, and the air, in turn, warms the people and objects in the room. A hotwater radiator, a stove and a forced air furnace are all convection heaters. A quartz heater on the other hand heats the objects and people in the room without heating the air. It does this by producing radiation heat that travels like light waves. When the quartz crystal in the heater vibrates at a particular frequency, its energy is turned into infrared radiation. The radiation is then directed at the objects by means of a reflector. Is that clear? Let’s move on to how room design can affect heating efficiency.
Questions 19 to 22 are based on the conversation you have just heard.
19. What had the instructor probably been discussing in the previous class?
【解析】D從學生的回答中you said in the last class, I think, that convection is the transferring of heat by a liquid or a gas中可推斷出上節(jié)課教師講的是什么是對流的問題。
20. What does the instructor ask the student?
教師說:but first you tell me what convection means.
21. According to the instructor, how is the quartz heater different from other types of heaters?
A quartz heater on the other hand heats the objects and people in the room without heating the air.
22. What is the purpose of the reflector on a quartz heater?
The radiation is then directed at the objects by means of a reflector.
Conversation Two
M: Hey, Karen, looks like you got some sun this weekend.
W:Yeah, I guess so. I spent the weekend at the beach.
M: Oh, Yeah, that’s great. Where did you stay?
W:Some friends of my parents’ live out there and they invited me for as long as I wanted to stay.
M:So what are you doing back here already?
W:Oh, I have a paper I need to work on, and I just couldn’t do any serious studying at the beach.
M:I don’t blame you. So what did you do out there? I mean besides lying out in the sun, obviously.
W:I jogged up and down at the beach, and I played some volleyball. You know I never realized how hard it is to run on sand. I couldn’t even get through a whole game before I had to sit down. It’s much easier to run on the wet sand near the water.
M:Not to mention cool air. Did you go swimming?
W:I wanted to, but they said the water isn’t warm enough for that until a couple of months from now. So I just waded in up to my knees.
M:it all sounds so relaxing. I wish I could get away to the beach like that.
W:it looks like you could use it. Don’t tell me you spent the weekend in the livery again.
Questions 23 to 25 are based on the conversation you have heard.
23.How did the woman spend last weekend?
I spent the weekend at the beach. 四個選項中只有A項Relaxing at the seashore 到海邊放松去了,符合題意。
